  • Ruby Plus PIPES!

THE PLAN!

Ruby is to become a combination pipe and virtual organ - Ruby Plus!

The phased plan calls for a maximum of 16 ranks of pipes (if I live that long!). There is the ability to stop at 9, 10, 12, 13, or 16 ranks.

There are 9 ranks of Ken Crome restored chests and pipework. The balance requires restoration which will only occur after the restored parts are installed and singing sweetly.

The majority of the pipework to be used in the project is drawn from two Wurlitzer theatre pipe organs. They are Opus 1452, originally a Style EXSP, and Opus 1730, originally a Style F.

Ruby's 44 rank specification could have up to 16 virtual ranks replaced by pipes, one rank at a time. The plan is eventually that each family of tone (Flute, String, Diapason, Tibia, Vox, chorus reeds and colour reeds) is led by pipes. And that those pipe ranks which contribute the most tone sources (most unified) to an ensemble are favoured (Flute, Diapason, Tibia, String, Vox).
